Vacation rental cleaning checklist for every turnover
A home can look ready while the bathroom bin is still full, a bed is missing linen or a key has been left in the wrong place. A useful checklist catches these details before the next guest arrives.
This starting point follows the job from entering the property to the final handover. Use it straight away, removing items that don’t apply and adding quantities, locations and specific instructions. The final section explains how to bring these checks into your daily workflow with Rentevo.
Before you start: check the stay and inspect the property
Put the property, date, assigned cleaner and ready-by time at the top. Check guest count and requested beds: using the same setup every time can leave a sofa bed or towel set unprepared. Use the agreed arrival time if early check-in has been approved.
- Confirm that the previous guest has left and that you can access the property.
- Read any requests to fulfil during the clean, such as an extra bed or additional towels.
- Check drawers, wardrobes and sockets for left-behind belongings; report and store items using the manager’s procedure.
- Record damage or unusual findings before tidying, noting the room and exact location.
Kitchen: clean surfaces and supplies ready to use
Check what guests will open or pick up. A tidy kitchen can still hide dirty dishes in the dishwasher or food left in the fridge. Specify the quantities of supplies rather than leaving a vague “restock” instruction.
- Check and clean the fridge, dishwasher, oven and microwave as specified for the service.
- Clean the hob, sink, worktops, table and handles.
- Put away clean dishes and utensils, checking for missing or damaged items.
- Empty bins, replace liners and replenish the supplies provided for this property.
Bathrooms: inspect the result before leaving the room
Specify the towels for each bathroom and where they belong. Inspect after cleaning: hair at the drain, marks on the mirror and an empty dispenser are easier to spot when the expected result is clear.
- Clean the toilet, basin, taps, shower or bath and the specified surfaces.
- Check mirrors, visible drains, the floor and the bin.
- Replace towels and the bath mat with the clean items required for the arriving guests.
- Replenish toilet paper and toiletries to the agreed quantities.
Bedrooms, living areas and outdoor spaces
The list should reflect the property: a terrace, cot or sofa bed needs its own item. A reference photo can make written instructions about beds and linen much clearer.
- Change linen, check mattress protectors and pillows, and prepare the beds actually requested.
- Check under beds and between sofa cushions; clean surfaces, handles and floors.
- Return remotes, instructions and amenities to their specified places.
- Check the entrance, balconies and outdoor furniture included in the service.
The final handover includes anything still unresolved
Walk through the property as a newly arriving guest would. Check that the setup matches the booking, keys are in place and Wi-Fi instructions use the current details. Take final photos of the areas the manager needs to see.
If a lamp isn’t working, record the issue and what still needs doing as you finish the clean. The manager needs to distinguish “cleaning completed” from “issue resolved” and decide whether a repair is needed before arrival.
Bring the checklist into your team’s workflow with Rentevo
In Rentevo, set up property checks and customise them for an individual job. The assigned cleaner sees the checklist and required photos in the phone workflow; required items must be completed before finishing. Issue reports stay attached to the job so the manager can follow up and create linked work.
Start with one property and try the list with the person who actually cleans it. Remove ambiguous items and add the details that currently require a phone call. In a demo, we can explore that workflow and how your team is organised.
Questions before you start
Does each property need a different checklist?
Use a shared starting point and adapt beds, rooms, quantities and locations to each home. “Prepare the bed” becomes useful when it specifies which bed, how many guests and which linen.
